At CVCA, Bible instruction is central to our mission of making disciples and building a Christ-centered community. Using the BJU Press Elementary Bible curriculum, students study Scripture through a systematic exploration of foundational Bible truths and the overarching narrative of the Old and New Testaments. Instruction encourages consistent Bible reading habits, Scripture memorization, worship through singing, and thoughtful application of God’s Word. CVCA utilizes the BJU Press Elementary Writing & Grammar program to provide students with a strong foundation in English language arts. Instruction integrates writing, grammar, mechanics, listening, speaking, and visual literacy to help students communicate clearly and effectively while appreciating language as God’s gift. Through sequential instruction, spiral review, and consistent practice, students master English conventions and develop proofreading and editing skills. Following the writing process, students compose in a variety of genres—including opinion, informational, and narrative writing—while strengthening their skills through teacher modeling, collaboration, and real-world application.

CVCA utilizes DIBELS® (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) as a research-based assessment tool to monitor the development of early literacy and reading skills from kindergarten through six grade. These brief, one-minute fluency measures are administered regularly to identify potential risk and track student progress over time. Aligned with foundational reading standards, DIBELS data supports informed instructional decisions, helping educators evaluate individual student growth and adjust instruction to ensure strong literacy development.

CVCA uses Readmaster to support the development of reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension for students in Levels 1–6. Students are introduced to vocabulary appropriate to their reading level, engage with meaningful texts at an automated reading pace, and demonstrate understanding through comprehension questions. Readmaster adjusts reading rate and difficulty based on student performance while allowing educators to monitor progress and make manual adjustments as needed. This tool supports differentiated instruction and helps students grow in reading confidence, accuracy, and understanding.
